I hope you have been well.
I have been great.
While I was away, I got to attend a two week series at church – Lavington SDA Church along Vanga Road (Karibu there whenever you want to church-hop).
The Study Series was titled THE GIFTS OF THE GOSPEL. I must confess I have never heard the word of God explained so practically and making so much sense; I just have to share a few lessons I have drawn from it;
1. GOD HAS A VISION FOR THE LIFE OF EACH ONE OF US
A Vision is a clear mental picture of a preferred destiny. It is the END /PRODUCT
The Lord, when creating us in Genesis 1: 26 had in mind to make us in His image and likeness. After the fall of man into sin, it then became His mission to restore in us His image and likeness for eternity. This process involves us yielding our will to His will and then abiding in Him (being His disciples) as in John 15:1-8. This will take TRAINING and not TRYING (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). Training is daily; it is intentional, deliberate and requires effort and consistency. It also needs us to take the cues at every turn from our master trainer, Jesus Christ. Trying on the other hand is haphazard; it is done with your own strength, in it you do what you think.
We Must Train To be like Jesus.
Questions: Do you know that God wants you to be like Him? Are you training daily to be like Him?
2. GOD HAS A MISSION FOR EACH ONE OF US
A mission is a clear picture of how to get to the vision. It is the PROCESS.
As part of achieving the vision of making us like him, God gives each of us a mission. The mission is very important because it is a tailored fit that grants us the opportunity to grow, and practice while in the journey to being like Jesus...
Of the disciples: Peter, James, John, Philip, and the rest; for each, God had mapped out the mission for their lives. Yes, they were to go and make disciples but how they were going to do it differed. Having walked with Jesus and being trained of Him, they were to all go forth and do the same work. Go into the world and make disciples. The how was different for each one even though the work was the same. God has a mission for you and me.
Question: What can you say with certainty is God’s mission for your life?
If you do not know it, seek to follow Him, He will make it clearer as you go along just like He did for Peter in the dream recorded in Acts 10:1-35.
3. GOD HAS MADE US STEWARDS
To enable us pursue the lifework (our mission); God has made us stewards of His Mysteries. (1 Corinthians 4:1). A steward is a servant who has earned so much of his master’s trust that he is allowed to manage the master’s possessions.
As stewards we have been entrusted by God with much (and we know that to whom much has been given, much will be required) but I will only mention 4 that cut across to us all as the human race:
§ TALENT: The Master in His wisdom granted to each of the servants talents according to their abilities. (Matthew 25:14-30). In giving the talents to the servants, He intended to increase not only the investment but also the investor to be like Him.
What talents has God given you? Do you know that by them God wants you to increase and also grow up into His likeness?
§ TIME: Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that to every a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Are you aware what the season in your life right now is? Do you know what should occupy you in the said season?
Vs. 2 says a time to be born and a time to die. Having known that God has given us time in seconds, minutes, days, months, and years; what are you doing with the time God has given you? Are you productive and fruitful with it? Are you making a difference?
Do you know that how you use your time demonstrates to God how you would use eternity?
§ TREASURE: David in the 24th Psalm recognizes that; the earth is the Lord’s and all the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. All that we have in riches and material things are given us for a time. We are to recognize that God is over all by returning faithfully His tithe and giving a generous offering. Unfortunately, many of us are so attached to the riches of this world, thinking that they are our own. In God’s training school the very first lesson that should be deeply embedded in us is that WE, AND ALL THAT WE OWN ARE GOD’S.
What are you doing with the treasure that God has given you? Are you wasting it or being like the ant? Are you giving for His cause and using it to help in the mission he has given you?
§ TEMPLE: Do you not know that ye are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16.
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:20). Paul says that in light of what God has done for us - bought us with a price – we should honor God in our body. There are three in which we can glorify God in our body;
1. INPUT: We must be careful what goes into our bodies, when and how. This applies to food and information.
2. ONPUT: We must be careful what we put on. This applies to what we put onto our physical bodies.
3. OUTPUT: What are you doing with your mind, strength, hands, heart and all that God has given you bodily?
We are to glorify God in our bodies.
Remember that it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
